Objective;
- To introduce young players to rugby and cultivate a love for the game.
- To teach and reinforce basic rugby skills.
- To expose children to the joy of team sports.
- To encourage personal growth and development.
- To provide each player with the opportunity to develop their own identity on the rugby field.
How Does It Work?
- Players participate in their appropriate age groups: U/7 (Buffaloes), U/9, U/11, and U/13.
- Teams are selected by coaches within each age group
- U/12 and U/13 players have the opportunity to participate in the Free State Rural and Free State trials.
What You Need to Know
Season:
- Rugby is played during Terms 2 and 3, with preparations beginning in Term 1.
Coaching:
- Coaching takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during practice times, as outlined in the extracurricular programme.
- All coaches are BokSmart certified, as required by SARU.
- The coach is responsible for maintaining a safe and educational environment.
Matches:
- Matches and participation are organised by the school. Information will be communicated in advance to the parents of the players involved if their sons are playing in a match.
- Initiatives are in place to give as many players as possible the opportunity to participate.
Uniform:
- All players in all age groups play barefoot.
- All matches are played wearing navy PE shorts.
- Match jerseys are provided by the school.
- 2015: 6 players – Free State Rural, 3 players – Free State U/12A, 1 player – Free State U/13A
- 2016: 8 players – Free State Rural, 4 players – Free State U/12A, 3 players – Free State U/13A
- 2017: 6 players – Free State Rural
- 2018: 5 players – Free State Rural
- 2019: 10 players – Free State Rural, 1 player – Free State U/12A
- 2020: 7 players – Free State Rural
- 2021: --
- 2022: 6 players – Free State Rural, 1 player – Free State U/12A
