A Night of Fellowship and Flavour at the Primary School Hostel
’n Aand van Samesyn en Smaak by die Laerskool Koshuis
On Thursday, 19 March, our hostel had the privilege of hosting a truly special steak evening for current parents, as well as those considering the hostel as a future home for their children. The purpose of the evening was to open our doors, showcase what hostel life is all about, and introduce our dedicated staff to the parents. From the moment guests arrived, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Parents had the opportunity to connect with one another, ask questions, and experience the sense of community that lies at the heart of our hostel.
Terwyl die ouers die heerlike steak en goeie geselskap geniet het, was die kinders net so besig gehou. Vreugde het die lug gevul terwyl hulle op die springkasteel gespeel het, kreatief geraak het met die versiering van hul eie kolwyntjies en saam pizza geniet het. Dit was besonders om te sien hoe jonk en oud die aand op hul eie manier geniet het. Die geleentheid het werklik vir almal iets gebied en kosbare herinneringe geskep vir elkeen wat dit bygewoon het.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Henk from Karan Beef and Nic Roodt from Saamstaan for their generous donations. Their support made this evening not only possible, but also truly memorable and special. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated hostel committee, who invested their time and energy into decorating the hall so beautifully, organising all the arrangements beforehand, and preparing the delicious side dishes that perfectly complemented the steak.

Julle ondersteuning het die aand nie net moontlik gemaak nie, maar ook besonders en onvergeetlik. ’n Spesiale woord van waardering gaan ook aan ons toegewyde koshuis-komitee wat hul tyd en energie ingesit het om die saal pragtig te versier, al die reëlings vooraf te tref en die heerlike bykosse voor te berei het. Hierdie aand sal beslis nog lank in ons harte bly voortleef.
ALIE-SKEIDSREGTERS GRADUEER
Vyf toegewyde onderwyseresse van Laerskool Aliwal-Noord het onlangs ’n besondere mylpaal bereik wat die skool se strewe na uitnemendheid verder bevestig.
On Thursday, 19 March, these educators not only successfully passed their theoretical examination, but also completed their practical assessment. As a result, they have officially qualified as referees — an achievement that reflects their dedication to sport development and continuous professional growth.
Hierdie prestasie dra nie net by tot hul persoonlike ontwikkeling nie, maar versterk ook die skool se vermoë om sport op ’n hoë vlak aan te bied. Leerders van die skool baat direk by die kundigheid en passie wat hierdie onderwyseresse na die sportveld bring.
Laerskool Aliwal-Noord is besonder trots op hierdie prestasie en bly verbind tot die ontwikkeling van beide personeel en leerders. Die skool sien uit daarna om voort te bou op hierdie sukses en om steeds geleenthede te skep waar uitnemendheid kan floreer.
ANPS LEARNERS EXCEL AT FREE STATE RURAL RUGBY TRIALS
A group of talented learners have showcased their skills during the third round of the Free State Rural rugby trials and were rewarded with selection for their respective age groups.

LSAN LEERDERS BLINK UIT BY VRYSTAAT PLATTELAND-RUGBYPROEWE
’n Groep talentvolle leerders het hul staal gewys tydens die derde rondte van Vrystaat Platteland-rugbyproewe en is beloon met keuring vir hul onderskeie ouderdomsgroepe.
Die skool is besonder trots op die volgende leerders wat gekies is:

ALIE-ATHLETICS AT THE SA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2026 South African Primary Schools Athletics Championship (SASA) took place at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, Western Cape from 19 – 21 March 2026. This premier national event brought together top primary school athletes for track and field competitions.
Twee van LSAN se top atlete was gekies om die Oos-Kaap span in Kaapstad te gaan verteenwoordig.
Ivor Ludick (Seuns o/10) het aan die 80m deelgeneem. Bokoena Phailane (Boys u/10) took part in the Long Jump and 100m. Both boys went through to the semi-finals.
What an amazing opportunity and experience for these two young athletes to compete at this prestigious event.
Ons sien met verwagting uit om hulle in die toekoms dop te hou.
GR.6-7 LANDSDIENSKLUBKAMP / GR.6-7 LAND SERVICE CLUB CAMP
Vrydag, 20 Maart, het 59 van ons gr.6 & 7 landsdieners saam met 9 personeellede, die langpad aangedurf na Skietfontein, buite Somerset-Oos. After a long drive to The Lapa campsite an exciting weekend began.
Vrydagaand het rustig begin. Nadat die kamerindelings afgehandel is, het ons tradisioneel die kamp met ‘n ysbrekerspeletjie begin. After dinner the camp instructors took everyone for a solitaire walk to a small church on the hill next to the campsite. On the way we stopped and sat with all flashlights off to look at the stars, with the help of the instructors and Ms. Sumara we identified Orion’s belt, the Southern Cross and the Milky Way. Daarna het ons verder gestap tot by die kerk waar juffrou Elmarie vir ons die aand afgesluit het.
Saterdagoggend was almal vroeg weer wakker en gereed vir ‘n opwindende dag, propvol onvergeetlike aktiwiteite.
Love for nature and love for labour was our main focus in the first activity for the day. Everyone got their hands dirty in the best way possible as they planted Elephant bush (Spekbome) and discovered why caring for our environment matters. Through this fun and meaningful activity, they learned that even small actions can make a big difference for our planet.
Die Spekboom is een van die doeltreffendste plante in die wêreld om koolstofdioksied op te neem. Dit help om die lug skoon te maak, gebruik baie min water en speel ’n belangrike rol in die herstel van natuurlike ekosisteme. Ons het die saailinge van ’n groener toekoms geplant, een Spekboom op ’n slag!
Mud, teamwork and big smiles came along with the next activity. Our learners took on a fun and challenging mud obstacle course, working together in teams to conquer every slippery, messy and muddy obstacle. From crawling through mud to helping one another over obstacles, this activity was filled with laughter, determination, and true teamwork. It wasn’t just about getting to the finish line, it was about supporting each other and having fun along the way. We were so proud of their spirit and perseverance. To end off such fun morning, the learners went for a swim before lunch.
Na middagete het ons in 4 groepe roteer tussen aktiwiteite wat jou adrenalien laat vloei het tot aktiwiteite waar almal net bietjie kon rustig wees. After lunch we rotated in our 4 groups, between activities that got your adrenalin flowing to activities where everyone could relax for a moment.
1. Die GROOT swaai! Met party wie se bene gebewe het en ander wat hulle harte buite hulle bors kon voel klop, het almal van oud tot jonk die hoogte aangedurf. Stewig vasgeharnas word jy 11m in die lug opgetrek totdat jy net blou lug sien. Nog voor jy kan wonder of jy gereed is, skiet jy los en swaai meters bo die grond. Meeste het ontdek hoe hard hulle kan gil, terwyl ander net hulle oë styf toe geknyp het. Hierdie was verseker een van die kamp se “HOOGTEpunte”.
2. First Rides. In one of the rotation activities our learners enjoyed a horseback riding experience and for many of them it was their very first time on a horse! With a mix of excitement and a little bravery, they learned how to connect with these gentle animals and build confidence along the way.
3. Handvaardigheid is ‘n tradisie op enige Landsdienskamp. By ons handvaardigheidstasie het al die leerders leer selfoonbandjies maak saam met juffrou Juanita en kon die leerders vir ‘n tweede handvaardigheid kies tussen ‘n leë kosblikkie versier saam met juffrou Amoré Cronje om ‘n spekboom in te plant wat hulle dan kon saambring huistoe, of nog ‘n hondespeelding uit ou t-hemp lap te maak saam met juffrou Suné.
4. War cries and games. At the fourth station, the groups, along with Miss Coline and Miss Amoré, had the chance to practice their war cries and play some fun, relaxed games, where they could laugh together and had to work as a group to achieve one goal. Here, our groups got to know each other better and our leaders got the chance to show what they are made of.
Nadat al 4 groepe ‘n kans gekry het by elke stasie was dit tyd vir ’n aksiebelaaide geveg op die verfbalveld en hulle het elke oomblik daarvan geniet! Van spanwerk en strategie en ‘n bietjie angs, was dit ’n ervaring vol opwinding en energie. Selfs met ’n paar stampe en kneusplekke het hul glimlagte nooit verdwyn nie! Dit is beslis iets wat hulle nie gou sal vergeet nie.
It was a day filled with laughter, new skills, and proud moments as our learners stepped out of their comfort zones and tried something new. We ended the day with “stokbrood braai”, each one for themselves, and a lovely meal, followed by a night march along the river to a large bonfire where they could roast marshmallows and end the day in a calm atmosphere.
Ons is dankbaar dat almal Sondag weer veilig teruggekeer het. Baie dankie aan oom Jannie en sy span en al die onderwysers wat die naweek vir ons onvergeetlik gemaak het.
We are thankful that everyone came back safely on Sunday. Thank you very much to uncle Jannie and his team and all the teachers for making it an unforgettable weekend.
