On Monday, 2 February, our school took part in the Maletswai Townal Athletics Meeting, and what a memorable day it proved to be. The atmosphere on the field was filled with excitement, determination and true sportsmanship as learners gave their very best in every event. From the first clap to the final race, our athletes demonstrated courage and commitment, making the school exceptionally proud.
Laerskool Aliwal-Noord het besonder goed gevaar en het altesaam 38 eerste plekke, 29 tweede plekke en 20 derde plekke behaal. Hierdie prestasie getuig van die atlete se harde werk, die afrigters se toewyding en die ondersteuning van ouers en personeel. Elke punt wat verdien is, het bygedra tot ’n dag van groot sukses vir ons skool.
Among the top performers were several exceptional athletes. Michael Heynes (boys u/7) ran the 80 m in 14.82 seconds, earning 415 points, while Ugcobo Nojobe (girls u/7) completed her 60 m in 11.87 seconds for 421 points. Imyoli Tsiki (boys u/8) impressed with a swift 9.81 seconds in the 60 m, and Matje Fourie (girls u/8) followed with a strong 10.29 seconds, achieving an excellent 599 points.
Onder die uitblinkers was daar verskeie merkwaardige atlete. Ivor Ludick (seuns o/10) het die 70 m hekkies in 15.44 sekondes voltooi en 597 punte behaal, terwyl Jacobus Odendaal (seuns o/11) dieselfde item in 15.25 sekondes gehardloop het vir 525 punte. Amienke Botha-Arends (dogters o/11) het uitgeblink in gewigstoot met ’n afstand van 6.36 m en ’n indrukwekkende 659 punte.
The strong performances continued in the older age groups. Olamide Olaifa (boys u/12) ran the 100 m in 14.06 seconds for 515 points, and Adanje Kotze excelled in the shot put with a distance of 7.90 m, earning a remarkable 736 points. Michael Paul (boys u/13) completed the 80 m hurdles in 15.62 seconds, while Ria van Riet showed exceptional endurance in the 1500 m walk, finishing in 10:17.62 and scoring an outstanding 749 points.
Hierdie prestasies wys nie net talent nie, maar ook deursettingsvermoë, dissipline en trots. Elke atleet het die skool se naam hoog gehou en as ware ambassadeurs van Laerskool Aliwal-Noord opgetree. Ons is opreg trots op elke leerder wat deelgeneem het en hul beste gelewer het, ongeag die uitslag.
