During the first week of the holidays 12 of Aliwal North Primary School\u2019s learners went on the Land Service Provincial camp. A camp, where all the Eastern Cape schools that do Land Service, camp together and where new friendships are built. Buses packed and off we went to the beautiful Jeffreys Bay. When arrived there, we started with our handcrafts. We had the opportunity to paint our own pottery and we all showed our creative side.<\/p>\n
Die 2de dag van die kamp het Jeffreysbaai ons behoorlik gewys waarvan almal praat as hulle s\u00ea die wind waai sterk daar, maar \u2018n Landsdiener staan vir niks terug nie. Ons het die Ou Van Staden\u2019s brug, wat in 1905 klaar gebou is, gaan besoek en oor hom gestap. Dit is die 2de hoogste spoorbrug in Suid-Afrika en die hoogste smalspoorbrug in die w\u00eareld. Ons het ook \u201cAfrican Dawn\u201d besoek en \u2018n klomp verskillende vo\u00ebls, apies, slange en selfs \u2018n krokodil gesien. Rotspoelstudies was bepaald \u2018n hoogtepunt en die kinders het \u2018n verskeidenheid verskillende seelewe gesien en daarvan geleer.<\/p>\n
We went to visit the Volkswagen factory in Uitenhage, where all Polos and Polo Vivos are made and took a tour through the factory to see how they make all the car parts and how they are put together. No words can describe the technology and machinery they use. We also saw the actual different cars that were made throughout the years kept in the Volkswagen Museum. Back at the campsite we got ready for the afternoon activities on the beach. Each group had to complete different obstacles and work together to solve it. This was extremely funny! To end the day, we had a Pirates of the Caribbean theme dance and danced until our feet couldn\u2019t move anymore. Dressing up was definitely a highlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cVir my was die boeresport die lekkerste, want ons het in groepe saam gewerk. Ons was nie in ons oorspronklike groepe ingedeel nie, daarom kon ons ook ander groepe se landsdieners leer ken. Almal moes uit hul gemaksone kom omdat jy nie noodwendig met jou skool se kinders in \u2018n groep was nie. Dit het my gehelp om 10 nuwe wonderlike landsdieners te ontmoet. Al het ons groep soms misluk, het ons as \u2018n groep opgestaan en weer probeer totdat ons dit kon regkry. Dit het ons gehelp met goeie vaardighede aanleer soos geduld en uithouvermo\u00eb. Een van die hoogtepunte vir my was \u201ctug of war\u201d en waar ons, ons voete in die lug moes hou en \u2018n roomys bak vol water moes aanstuur van een punt na \u2018n ander. Al het ons sopnat geraak met yskoue water wat op ons val, het ons steeds baie pret gehad.\u201d \u2013 Zahnika Vorster<\/p>\n
Ons het ook die branderplankfabriek en die Skulpie museum besoek. Die proses hoe hulle branderplanke maak is vir ons gewys en verduidelik. By die skulpie museum het ons geleer van al die verskillende skulpies wat mens kry en hoe ons die see en die strande moet bewaar. Ons het die uitstappie afgesluit met heerlike roomys en ook die skulpie winkel besoek. Die aand het almal hulle toneelspelvaardighede, wat die 4 liefdes vir Landsdiens uitbeeld, gewys en elke groep het hulle konsert opgevoer.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy favourite part of the provincial camp was when we had a sea life lecture. After that we visited the sea shell museum, where I saw the biggest shells in Jeffrey\u2019s Bay. The lady that was there told us a lot of interesting things about shells. The shells were very well displayed. The shells were beautiful and everyone enjoyed it.\u201d \u2013 Onako Bongweni<\/p>\n
\u201cDie kamp was baie lekker met al die wonderlike aktiwiteite. Die Volkswagen fabriek en die brug het ek die meeste geniet. Die toer deur die Volkswagen fabriek is iets wat ek nooit sal vergeet nie die ou karre was lekker om te sien en die speletjies wat daar was, was baie pret, nog nie eens gepraat van die fabriek self nie. Ek het ook so baie nuwe mense leer ken en vriende gemaak, wat vir my \u2018n hoogtepunt was. Ek kan nie wag vir die Nasionale Kamp nie!\u201d \u2013 Andries de Klerk<\/p>\n
\u201cJeffrey\u2019s Bay was a great adventure learning about new stuff. We got amazing food and everyone were all smiles after every meal. The activities were really fun and adventurous; my favourite activity was Volkswagen. I would like to thank the teachers for giving us a wonderful camp. This camp will never be forgotten.\u201d \u2013 Hlumelo Nodada<\/p>\n
The day to go home arrived and a lot of tears were shed when saying goodbye to our new friends. Luckily, it\u2019s not goodbye forever, only until our next camp together. What an amazing camp it was, gaining new knowledge, new skills, working with others, facing our fears and making new friend. All thanks to Land Service!<\/p>\n
